Rinse and repeat: Is Texas still seceeding?

I’m registered into a two hour EPA webcast seminar on preparing RFP’s for local project. (I volunteer with a civic organization working on estuary waters and storm runoff – subjects about which I know exactly nothing.) Scintillating it is not. So I’m multi-tasking and listening with only one ear.

From Washington Monthly just now:

Markos Moulitsas commissioned a fascinating poll in January, getting a better sense of exactly what rank-and-file Republicans are thinking nationwide.

…I’m putting the finishing touches on my new book, American Taliban, which catalogues the ways in which modern-day conservatives share the same agenda as radical Jihadists in the Islamic world. But I found myself making certain claims about Republicans that I didn’t know if they could be backed up. So I thought, “why don’t we ask them directly?” And so, this massive poll, by non-partisan independent pollster Research 2000 of over 2,000 self-identified Republicans, was born.

The results are nothing short of startling.

Quite right. A plurality of rank-and-file Republicans wants to see President Obama impeached. More than a third of self-identified Republicans believe he wasn’t born in the United States. A 63% majority is convinced the president is a socialist, about a fourth believe he wants terrorists to be successful, and about a third think Obama is a racist who hates white people.

Nearly a third of Republicans think contraceptive use should be outlawed.

More than three-quarters of Republicans want public schools to teach children that the book of Genesis “explains how God created the world.”

A third of Southern Republicans want to see their state secede from the union.

Now where are they getting those ideas?

  3. I guess if we succeed, Hutchinson would no longer want the Governor job, seeing as how she is a Washington gal, so Perry would probably have the Honor of having the very first job of… *clears throat*… “Emperor of Conservative Grandeur”, pretty well wrapped up…HEY…WHAT IS THIS?… Here W comes a running! He’s gaining ground!… But seriously, if Texas succeed’s, I will be joining you in Florida. If Texas wanted to go, we might be able to put up a fight, as we have a lot of Men, and Mexicans, who would be eager to earn citizenship. We also have a bunch of troops returning that know how things work. So I could see how Obama would let us go to avoid bloodshed. But do you think they would let us go, seeing how they would lose all of that oil? Texas would be second only to Saudi Arabia in terms of Wealth. Do you think The US would let that happen?

  4. Succeed? I stink at spelling.

    • Well, you’ve still got the Alamo – who claims it anyway these days?

Actually, maybe Florida could seceed. I mean we have a short easily defended border – we are after all a penninsula. We could be a Caribbean nation! And from what I hear, we got plenty oil ourselves out in that Gulf.

But this is the sunshine state with a steady and constant breeze. We could probably run the whole place with solar and wind.

Then, we could kick out the greedy bastards who are still developing in the Everglades, make Carl Hiasson king, pour a cocktail and go to the beach! You’re welcome to come along.

  5. That sounds great! I would love to, and get away from this 40 degree weather. Carl Hiaasen? As King? I read about him, and Uh Oh, having him as King would ruffle some feathers. The Constitution would be a very entertaining read, to say the least! 😉 I tell you, if Texas AND Florida were to suceed together, there would be no stopping us. After all, I hear Cubans can fight! Anyway, The Alamo is owned by The State of Texas and run by The Daughters of The Texas Republic. (i had to look that up, what a sorry texan i am) Did you know that The Alamo was actually destroyed? The walls and fort and everything. What we see is actually the church part, and something else, …I already forgot! 😦
