Even tho we here in FL tried real hard to make that happen. Voting in Miami went on almost to midnight – some people waitied in line for over six hours.

Yep. Liberals and complacent Americans chose four more years of exactly what we’ve had, the Liberals by voting for Obama and the Americans by not voting against him.
So, for all of you who are happy with these results – do you really think we’ll be anything but horribly more worse off in the coming years? Think back over the last four years before answering that as nothing has changed in DC.

Being American is about more than where you’re born, eurobrat. It’s about beliefs and values and love of country. Liberals don’t have beliefs and values that coincide with America’s and have little or no love for this country, else they wouldn’t consistently try to fundamental change it into something unrecognizable.
Hence, in all ways except the current law, they’re not Americans.

Oh, I love this country very much. And my belief in freedom and democracy definitely coincides with American values. I do agree with you that it is about more than just where you are born–I wasn’t born here, but I am fully American.

eurobrat, I’ve read many of your comments here and I’ve perused your blog – well-written, btw – many times and I don’t see where you can say that you love my country. It seems more like you love the opportunity it affords to change it into something it isn’t and was never meant to be.

First off jonolan, the country eurobrat loves is her country, our country. Is it your contention that there can only be one kind of beliefs, one kind of values? Is it also your contention that yours are correct and those hold other views are wrong. Ad that this is so because you say so?
Now, THAT is what’s not American. I will also assume you see no need for Courts or juries? After all, if there’s only one truth, who needs deliberation.
Without tension there is no dynamism. Without dynamism, there is no America.

It’s no set of assumptionss, Moe. I’ve spent decades studying the writings of our Founders and they were in general agreement – with a small cadre of “royalist” exceptions – on what they envisioned for America.
The arguments were mostly over details, not underlying principles.

jonolan, here’s the thing – we all study and read and observe the world around us, history, literature, science, even math, and peoople see different things and draw different conclusions. Without things like our congress and courts – the practice of poolitics basically – we would live in war lord enclaves, all 300 million of us, amongst only those with whom we are in agreement. I myself prefer civilization which is only possible with consensus to bring divergent views together.
I’ve read widely and deeply about the Founders generation and have taken away a view different than yours, but I agree they certainly agreed on broad principles,, the broadest being self government. And that’s the key. Only via government, can we have a nation. And only by a government, which by its very nature is the art of buildidng consensus in order to act, can we have civilization..
So in my own reading – not quite the ‘decades of study’ that you claim – I observe vast difereneces and diversity of both purpose and opinion. But they pulled it together. It’s been said that Washington was the best practitioner of politics we ever had.

She may love the country you want to change America into but, if I were to judge by her comments and blog, she doesn’t particularly love America. She’s made a reply about that though, and it makes sense.
As for beliefs – there’s a wide array of acceptable beliefs but they’re not all inclusive. Strangely, you on the left keep gravitating to the relatively few such that are antithetical to the America our Founders designed.
As for your courts and juries comment – nice little bit of a Leftist rant. Get back with sometime if you rediscover rationality and I wax “poetic” on my views of our current courts system. It just might shock you.

The problem here jonolan are assumptions you seem to make that our Founders shared a single vision or that there has been one definable America. Niether is true. America has been,, is, always will be a multiple of things just as people are gloriously various.

First of all, thank you for reading my blog. I always appreciate it when someone takes the time to read my rantings.
Secondly, it’s sad that you don’t see that I do love this country, and that perhaps this doesn’t come through my writing. I think what you will see a lot of times when you read my blog is my frustration about the serious problems that this country has–and that frustration comes from caring about it and its people. Funny that you think that I want to change it into something unrecognizable, since a lot of my anxiety and fear about conservatives comes from the feeling that they want to change the America I’ve come to know into something I won’t recognize as well, by taking away things like Social Security, jobs with a living wage etc.

Responded appropriately to a hurricane. Passed Health Care. Ended (rather than began) the war in Iraq.
I could go on, but I won’t waste my time. You have your opinions which I will not change, and I have mine. Mine won on Tuesday so I’m just gonna go with that.

True we have different opinions but you seem lacking in facts.
Obama had little to do with the healthcare act; he finally even gave up moderating the arguments. All he did was sign it.
And Iraq? He closed it out on Bush’s timeline, simply finishing what had been started…While continuing in Afghanistan without a set of victory conditions or an exit strategy.
But yes, your side won Tuesday. You elected your President and we all have to deal with that.

Obama may hold that title and position for all of America but, for the most part, the Left elected their POTUS with no thought other than hatred and vengeance for the rest of America.

It makes perfect sense to say the Obama is not “America’s” POTUS. Those who voted for him wanted their guy because he convinced them that he was against what the other side wanted.
He’s the Liberals’ President and the Blacks token of a victory against the Whites. He’s not America’s POTUS in any way other than law and wasn’t voted into office to be that in any case.
The union is broken, eurobrat, in all but name and that last step will likely come within our lifetimes unless something truly dramatic happens.

But the people who voted for Mitt also voted for him because he was “against the other side”. Most people didn’t vote for Mitt because they liked him…they voted for him because of their seething hatred of Obama.

I won’t dispute that point, eurobrat. If we’d elected Romney, he’d have been “Our” POTUS and that of our enemies only in law…or so many of us would have hope it would be.
As I said, the union is broken, eurobrat, in all but name. We’re too divided on too many fundamental issues for there to be any real hope of reconciliation or rapprochement at this point.
