A self-inflicted wound in a class by itself (also, not dead, merely unbloggy)

Sobering words and numbers from Nate Silver at The New York Times today – the electoral college projection particularly is unnerving. Story here [CAUTION, NY Times paywall link). I think it’s possible that a veep debate could, unusually, make a difference if Biden nails it.

Mr. Romney may have increased his chances of becoming president by 15 or 20 percent based on one night in Denver.

  1. I never realized how important the outcomes of these political debates were (believing debate outcomes were secondary to the candidates’ policy positions) until I watched that PBS Frontline episode on Romney/Obama a few nights ago. Ted Kennedy trounced Romney in the 1994 Senate race debate, and then Romney out-debated Shannon O’Brien in the 2002 gubernatorial campaign. Both debates were decisive to the election outcomes.
