    To remember!!

  2. Just so know, I deliberately waited to post this comment out of what might pass for respect for how so many of you think you feel. The following are just my personal feelings.

If you want to wear a poppy on Veterans day, Memorial Day, or Remembrance Day, please don’t. If you’re not going to wear one the rest of the year – there are silk ones – don’t do it on the days of the years when we’re trotted out to be “admired” and “thanked.”

Please let us rest. We’ve done our service and our time. And we never wanted your thanks. It’s embarrassing and, frankly, offensive though I can’t really articulate why. Jim, help me out here. I can’t believe, despite our difference in other things, that you feel that much differently.

Don’t get me wrong, if you need us to do this last duty, we’ll do it, but damn!

    • jonolan – I quite get what you’re saying. I was once in an airport when a couple of Afghan vets deplaned and people nearly threw themselves at the poor kids’ feet – the soliders were very young and they seemed to be want to get out of there as soon as they could.

It often looks more about civilians wanting to show (not necessarily feel) how appropriately grateful they are.

That said, I think wearing a poppy for one day a year is modest and dignified.

  3. Thank you for posting this and remembering, Moe.
