Oh boy, ‘s true. From ABC News, and now echoing with hallejulia’s from every single bit of righty internet real estate, where, all along, the between-the-lines-meme has been that George was really a hero.
George Zimmerman, who has been in hiding since he was acquitted of murder in the death of Trayvon Martin, emerged to help rescue a family who was trapped in an overturned vehicle, police said today.
Zimmerman was one of two men who came to the aid of a family of four — two parents and two children — trapped inside a blue Ford Explorer SUV that had rolled over after traveling off the highway in Sanford, Fla. at approximately 5:45 p.m. Thursday, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
This isn’t directed at Zimmerman who did a good thing here. It’s his media fans. They do piss me off.

Because pino, there seems to be no sincere acknowledgment that the outcome was a dead kid. An innocent dead kid. A lot of what I hear has an undertone of ‘he asked for it’. One column even spoke of him ‘skulking around’. Which is, I guess, the new way of saying ‘walking home..’

Innocent of what? Certainly not assault and battery, aggravated assault, or possibly attempted murder because one or more of those potential charges are what got him killed.

How about self-defense against someone who’s been following him? “Facing the threat’ like he thinks a man should? Attempted murder? Puhleeze. Didn’t self defense get Zimmerman off? Sorry, a grown man with a gun following an unarmed 17 year old walking home? I’ve cast my vote. Kid: innocent. Grown man: stupid and going all vigilante.

Self defense would have been his defense, surely, and it’d have likely worked. That doesn’t change the charges though. It also doesn’t take into account that Trayvon was the aggressor when it came to actual violence or that “fighting words” isn’t a defense in the vast majority of states.

Ms. Holland ,
Did the North-South poles just reverse or the Earth’s axis shift 2 thousand miles. Something is not right. You posted something kind about Zimmerman and Fox had Sally Kohn on their panel tonight, sitting next to Charles Krauthammer What next, Rush Limbaugh guest hosting the Ed Show ?

Speaking of the quite rightly ABC News, here’s an article on ABC’s senior political correspondent and right wing mole, Jonathan Karl.

BTW, I thought Zimmerman was in hiding because of death threats. What was he doing tooling around Sanford? Did he go back to his neighborhood watch?

To Genuine – First of all, he was a community watch guy, which is what they do, they watch. Secondly, if you’re going to tell me this guy is following you around and the first thing you’re going to do is sucker punch him and get him on the ground and beat on him, you’re worse than he is.

Gee T4T, just think of the trail of bodies we could have left behind. That’s assuming of course that we weren’t knocked off first . . .

By the way, North Carolina just made it legal to conceal carry in bars. What a good idea; why didn’t we think of it before.

But Zimmerman always was a hero, Moe. He voluntarily chose to put himself in harms way to protect his community. His choices may not have been wise but few of who we name heroes made wise choices leading up to their acts of heroism.

I did neighborhood watch for a few years, armed with a two-way radio supplied by the Sheriff’s office. I’m a hero!!!!

Yes, Moe, with all sarcasm cast aside as unworthy, you are. Not that many will put themselves out, much less put themselves in potential danger.

It certainly never felt dangerous and I don’t think it was – just a matter of lending a hand. We went through training by a deputy. Wonder if Zimmerman’s group was affiliated? Probably not since he made 47 previous calls and that would have weeded him out of patrol.

It’s unlikely that it was since only a bit less than 3rd of them are affiliated nationwide and the one in The Retreat at Twin Lakes was unlikely to be one of them as it was founded relatively recently in response to the increase in serious crime in the gated community and the long response times to calls from Sanford PD.

Well, if it’s true that he did this, then good for him? Doesn’t change that he took a life, but maybe he’s getting a chance to work off his bad karma?

Ah, the complexities of life. Reminds me of the Matt Dillon character in “Crash”. One minute a predator, the next a caring son and then a Hero. Facets, we all have facets.

Yep, it’s always complicated!

I find the fact that the family he “saved” never came out like they were supposed to a little bit suspicious. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just some way to make him not sound like the monster that he is.
