What a time to be a singer –  with new musical genres born every decade. Here is a childhood favorite of mine (she’d probably been performing for 25 years at this point):

  1. Ever so nice. Notice ( I can’t help it) the supreme importance of cultural pronunciation. Ella was a bridge, black to the eye, quite white to the ear, and yet, unique. She was a racial bridge and national icon. Thanks, Moe.
