Damn that Obama.
What’s your point. Moe. Nobody’s blaming Obama for gay marriage. Even the gays aren’t saying that he supports gay marriage in any effectual manner since he can’t do so anymore than any POTUS can.
Snark jonolan, snark. For much of the right, it’s almost kneejerk to blame Obama for anything that’s on their no-no list.
It’s also about what Ed said below – it’s about the hypocrisy of the political movement Cheney supports, including those who would trash his own daughter.
And I know he’s been entirely up front about Mary and good for him. But he’s been altogether too polite to religious bigots.
And a little irony . . . Obama has historially been less supportive of gay marriage than Cheney. Personally.
Will this threaten Dick’s marriage?
With every gay marriage, a traditional marriage collapses. I thought you knew that?
I guess Dick Cheney is not as bad as you guys believed he was ?
Dick Cheney circa 2009:
As many of you know, one of my daughters is gay and it is something we have lived with for a long time in our family. I think people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish. Any kind of arrangement they wish. The question of whether or not there ought to be a federal statute to protect this, I don’t support. I do believe that the historically the way marriage has been regulated is at the state level. It has always been a state issue and I think that is the way it ought to be handled, on a state-by-state basis … But I don’t have any problem with that. People ought to get a shot at that.
Sound familiar? Almost as if Obama had “lifted” the quote and then had his handlers add the appropriate “nuance?”
Face uncomfortable facts, all you Liberals, neither President Bush Jr. nor Vice President Cheney ever had a problem with homosexuality. In point of fact, Bush was the FIRST POTUS to allow a couple to spend the night together at the White House and had more openly gay and lesbian people working for him than any other POTUS up to and including Obama.
Their “comfort” with the issue did not stop them from using it as wedge issue during the election. Hypocrites both.
A nice lie there, either one of your own, Ed, or one that you bought into.
It was Liberals who made it a wedge by constantly trying to make Federal laws on the topic when that topic is a matter for the several states to decide upon.
That’s what Liberals due. They try to pass ridiculous laws and then try to blame Americans – you call them “Right Wingers” or “Conservatives” – when they balk at them. Liberals always play games with people’s lives.
jonolan – again,, I think you need to tune-up your snark detector.. I know all of that – but, as I said above, even tho they were personally tolerant, both of them embraced, didn’t just tolerate, outright embraced religious bigots, some so bad they’d have run Mary out of town.
The Darth Vadar remains an ass even if he has been forced to “live with” the fact that his daughter is gay. The GOP continues to hide their “dirty little secrets” all the while playing to their homophobic base.
Hey Sherry . . . you know, it’s votes. Also, it’s a civil rights thing, not their long suit.
