Why was Peggy Noonan making sense this morning? That doesn’t make sense.
Maybe she just looked good, sharing, as she did, the pundit table with this sorry collection:
- Ross Douthat, The NY Times’ least deserving op-ed hire of all time
- Bill Keller, former Exec Editor of the The NY Times (big morning for the Old Grey Lady!) and legend-in-his-own-mind and probably the guy who hired Douthat
- Chrystia Freeland of Reuters online, a teenager through and through – not surprising I guess from a woman saddled with such a precious name. Also shrill.
You can have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, or democracy. But you cannot have both.
Whatever Works 
I’m sometimes wondering if snapshot media is cultivating a different kind of punditry over time, where everything is reduced into food for tweets..

Zacharia usually has solid and informed guests – generally people you NEVER see on any of the other panels. After giving up network news some years ago because there was no news content, and backing off many of my old favorite MSNBC shows, I’m now skipping more of the Sunday gasbag shows. That one is a life change – for 20+ years, my Sunday has been defined by the papers, the coffee and the Sunday shows. But they’ve so deteriorated. For teevee, it’s only BBC, PBS and CSpan (and CNN but only when there is a disaster).
Used to be such fun mac, but they got so insular. The worst is when they have people from the campaigns on . . . hello? Do we not know in advance exactly what they will say? What then is the point? Certainly not to enlighten a reader or seek a ‘backstory’. And I think it’s because they just all go to the same cocktail parties.

I hear you… and realize that I’ve tuned out myself. And my fear is in part that this is a symptom of a systemic change, and eradicating the last bits of open dialogue and informative networks. It’s just all food fight and dumbing down – which serves an obvious political purpose.
Think I’ll stop there.

Haven’t watched her yet. But Hayes is still doing a bang up job – just listened to Sat’s show (I have wireless headphones and listen to all this stuff while I do chores – it’s perfect!).

Exactly bruce. Plus it fills air time, and the interviewer doesn’t really have to work or prepare . . . he can just ask the same old questions that everyone else had been asking over recent days.
