Do I really have to give kudos to Bill Kristol? Do I?

Yes. I do.

Yesterday, Mittens the Romneybot waded into the middle of the Chinese dissident situation while the ground was still moving beneath the feet of those involved and attacked the president, saying it was “a dark day for freedom and it’s a day of shame for the Obama administration.” This, while the drama was still unfolding.

A few hours later Bill Kristol, that most irritating of neocons, that most obsequious and annoying of little men, one who never ever imagined a mid-East war he couldn’t love, was on FOX News.  And here’s what he said:

KRISTOL: I’m happy to be critical of the Obama administration as anyone is, but I think this is fast moving story. And if I were advising Governor Romney, I’d say you don’t need to get in the middle of this story . . .

There is no need to butt into a fast moving story when the secretary of state is in Beijing with delicate negotiations and say it’s a day  of shame for the Obama administration. Hillary Clinton is waking up right now. Let’s see if she can pull this off in the next 12 hours or so.

She did. By this morning, the State Dept announced a deal with Beijing to allow Chen to study in the US. I’m sure China knows there’d be no upside for them were they to dig in on this one.

  1. This just shows Romney’s desperation and poor judgment. Amazing that it was Bill Kristol who had to say it.

  2. Staying true to form, there will soon be some brainless conservative commentary complaining about this as an immigration issue.

    • Hey kansas, how ya doin? Holding up? If you’ve the time, Dana Priest has a new book called ‘top secret america’ – fascinating and disturbing read – the new convergece is probably social networking, googlle, and marketers with the national securtiy state. They have us covered and frankly I think its pretty much too late to do anything about it. Even five years ago, I used to say that ‘Amazon knows more about me than my mother did”.

  3. BTW, if you are a privacy advocate, you should know that visiting your wordpress blog enables 5 entities to ‘track’ you. One is Facebook because any site with a FB ‘button’ allows FB to do this. There are also 3 ‘other’ companies and one advertising company.
Being on a Mac, I use a freeware that blocks ‘trackers’ and cookies.

Big Brother is corporations. Of course, the government can use all this tracking info too, all they have to do is ask for it.

  4. The wise person has to ask themselves if this was staged. A little good cop, bad cop to “help” the Chinese make the right decision.

It is, after all is said and done, not as if Romney and Obama aren’t two peas in a pod when it comes to policy decisions and I’m too cynical believe that a bit of inter-party collusion isn’t happening now and then.

    • A little ‘too’ cynical? Oh jonolan, I think medical intervention is called for! 😆

That said, I found it genuinely strange that Chen would ‘demand’ to travel on Clinton’s plane. He’s savvy enough to know that would NEVER happen.

      • Well, Moe, I spent years pretty much on inside of things working so cynicism is to be expected.

As for Chen – he’s savvy enough not to expect to ride on Clinton’s plane but also scared and pragmatic enough to know that it’s the safest ticket for him.

        • I think the deal is solid, but now let’s see when they actually let him travel.

          • When dealing with the Chinese, no deal is solid until delivery is made and payment clears the bank.

They’re not like us and don’t really care about their “international standing” or the opinion of we barbarians from outside the Middle Kingdoms. It’s their best strength.

  7. Somebody please splain to me why the US Embassy ever let this guy out of the building and back into China . The American personel go to the hospital, leave, and then lose track of him . What, we can’t bring in a doctor to treat him ? Nothing about this story makes any sense . Who was running the Embassy, Laurel and Hardy ?
