Ahh Billy, you weren’t supposed to leave yet

I lost my much-loved cousin Billy yesterday. He was one of the finest men I ever knew – someone who always did the right thing, no matter how hard. He was kind and loving and a lot of fun. Family meant everything to him. And he meant so much to us.

  5. You know, being along in years myself, I now reflect more on the reality that death will eventually come for us all. However, I see human behavior all around me in public indicating that most people are in denial of this. Reckless driving, texting while driving, smoking, obesity, drugs . . . What a waste it is. But I also see, as in the case of your dear cousin, that life isn’t fair, that some are taken all too soon despite rightful and principled living. The best we can do is to try to make the most of the life we have, and it sounds to me as if Billy did just that.

    Please accept my condolences, Moe.

  7. Thanks all. My cousin was, in Jim’s words, one who did “try to make the most” of his life. In so doing, he enriched ours.

As LInda Ellerbe used to say, “and so it goes”.

I grew up playing at the Holland’s house, and Mr. Holland will always hold a special memory for me – always smiling and laughing!

  17. Again, thank you everyone. It means a lot that you stopped by with your wishes. Heading out tomorrow.

Because of facebook I’ve been able, over the last few years, to re-establish and strengthen relationships with his daughters and also with his nearly grown granddaughters, none of whom I’ve seen in years. And I”m so glad of that and will tell them all so when I see them.
