From today’s story in The Washington Post about the growing demonstrations in Afghanistan following the burning of a pile of Korans.
Nine Afghans were killed Friday [in Kabul]. . . [and] six protesters and a police officer were killed in Herat Province when demonstrators tried to storm the U.S. Consulate. . . at each demonstrations, protestors shouted ‘Death to America’. . . More than 20 have been killed since the burning incident.
Remove this ‘causus belli’ of the Koran burning and that could have been written in 1979 about Iran, when 52 American Embassy employees were taken hostage.
While I’m on the subject: I haven’t posted that tally lately – Today is the 119th day of the 11th year of the War in Afghanistan.
You can have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, or democracy. But you cannot have both.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt put it in 1942, “I actually would put a barbed wire around Palestine, and I would begin to move the Arabs out of Palestine…. I would provide land for the Arabs in some other part of the Middle East…. Each time we move out an Arab we would bring in another Jewish family…” And this was exactly what happened with planned massacres !!
Good that America is giving its rein to the zionists to drag it into its end !!

Sami, thanks for coming by. My conservative readers (and for some reason I have many) will no doubt excoriate me for saying – I quite agree with you. As long as my country doens’t even take the trouble to consider conserving energy (read: oil) I think every action we take in the Muslim world is deeply immoral. Fighting wars to protect a resource while at the same time wasting vast amounts of that resource is entirely indefensible.
I’ve read a bit about Iran, about Afghanistan and Pakistan, about Islam (as an historic force, not as a religion) and it’s clear to me that we’ve been ignorant of history, full of hubris, far too sure of our own righteousness and as a result are in some sort of circular ‘blowback.’ So I do understand why we are widely hated in the Muslim world.
I’m sure you are familiar with the CIA/British overthrow of the Democratically elected gov’t of Iran in 1953, because we though Moussadeh (sp?) leaned too far left. We put the Shah in place and thereby created the environment for the Ayatollah’s rise.

First off, why dont you give us a clear definition of Islam. While youre at it, try to do the same for Christanity or any other religion out here?? I wouldnt mind a fence for anyone who riots because someone burned a book. Really, is there anyone out here who thinks that kind of behaviour is even remotely healthy or normal?

No, I am not Saudi… I am Palestinian refugee living some miles away from my home that was given to a Russian “Jewish” settler..
I am not even a Muslim in heart… I consider myself to be agnostic !!

I was in favor of going into Afghanistan at first (unlike Iraq), but now I just want us to get out of there as well. We don’t belong there. Osama is dead and he wasn’t in Afghanistan in the first place. Let’s move on.

If you asked a US gov’t official or a military official what we’re fighting for in Aftghanistan, they would not be able to come up with an honest answer. Nobody even knows anymore.
You’re right – we should have been out of there after 90 days – it was politically necessary to make a showing of going after Bin Laden, but after that . . . meh!
I guess the only ones who can tell us why it’s good that we’re in Afghanistan are the brilliant analysts of FOX News.
