Here’s the woman making sense, as only she can. Dear Elvis, I wish I could vote for her. Her election is not a given, even in Massachusetts, but at a time when it’s all about the economy, there’s no one out there with her credentials. And there’s no one out there with her skill at talking to those problems in an uncomplicated and direct way. Powerful combination.
She has another unique tool to use: after years of testifying before Congress, often to very hostile questions, Warren is remarkably adept at defending her positions. That will help. The media will be hard pressed to find her stumbling or saying dumb things. Here’s the video. I picked up the transcript here.
I hear all this, you know, “Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever.”—No! There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody.
You built a factory out there—good for you! But I want to be clear.
- You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for.
- You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate.
- You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for.
- You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize
everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did.Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or [had] great idea—God bless. Keep a big hunk of it.
But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.
Argue me that.
You can have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, or democracy. But you cannot have both.

And great argument she makes, never heard anyone put it so simply and straight forward. It’s great to have some fresh language for these things.

Why would you vote for such an ignorant ideologue? These comments are so riddled with falsehood I hardly know where to begin. The people she is excoriating are the very ones who actually pay the vast bulk of the taxes that build the roads, the infrastructure to get products to market and pay the salaries of all these essential public servants and services. It is not the “rest of us” who are paying the tab in this country. When will the 40% of this country who collectively pay nothing in federal taxes start paying back what they have taken instead of expecting the payers to pay more forward in support of this socialist nirvana?
Start thinking for yourself and liberate your mind from the mush you are being fed.

I am comfortably in what most would identify as “middle class”. You have not addressed my comments in any meaningful way. It is a rather simple observation that the very people being targeted by the left are the very people who are already shouldering the greatest share of the tax burden in this country. It is they (and the true “us”) who have paid for the infrastructure and not the imaginary “rest of us”. Legitimately refute that and you might be able to build a case. Until then it is merely another example of socialist class warfare rhetoric.

Who paid for the bank bailouts A.M.? The interstates by the way were financed mostly with road tolls. Most of those were lifted about 20 years ago after the debt had been paid. Road tolls – everyone paid them.

The banks paid for the “bailouts” for the most part since the vast majority of TARP funds have been repaid. The largest contributors of tolls are the commercial trucking companies. Most interstate projects today are paid for through general funds and not tolls.

A.M. has certainly not researched, or addressed what Warren says, but instead chooses to spout right-wing talking points. If A.M. would return and give specifics (aka facts) it would be different.
The fact is that the wealthy ‘job creators’ have plenty of tax breaks and loopholes and do not pay nearly what the middle class (that’s you, A.M.) pay in taxes. Fact: G.E. GOT BACK BILLIONS in taxes last year. Others large ‘job creators’ did just as well, all the while moving production out of the USA and enjoying another tax holiday.
No talking points (kool-aid) there, ….facts.
