A random thought

If these new governors in WI, OH and FL (among others) succeed in breaking public worker unions, look for private business to feel emboldened and go after their own unions.

  1. The more freedom people have, the more freedom they have to screw as many people over as possible to better themselves. It is our nature, you see.

    • Hmmmm, nope. It’s not that bad Sam. Sure there are plenty of people who screw others over, but that’s not most people. And certainly not because of freedom.

That ‘it’s our nature’ rule might apply in a dangerous situation – like a fire where only a few are going to make it through the exit and people will indeed climb over each other to be one of the lucky few. But the life we live most of the time is not a fire in the theatre.

Chance are that this is going to pass in Ohio. Their only needs to be a majority vote and the Democrats are vastly outnumbered. If it does pass though, the Democratic party will collect enough signatures to initiate a referendum and take it to public vote. If that happens, the bill goes down in flames. I was at the rally Tuesday and the mood was ugly. I’m betting that the scene there is going to look much like Madison as the vote gets closer.

    I’m confused.

Why are you so violently opposed to letting employees chose to be part of a union or not. How are you so married to the fact that employees can be forced to contribute to unions in the form of dues? Why do you object to corporations running ads and contributing to politicians while being a-okay with unions doing the same?

No one is saying that like minded fellows can’t walk into their boss’s office and bargain. What reasonable paying are saying is that there is no legal right to force me to join you.

    • Am I violently opposed? Are the protesters ‘violent’?

Look pino, I know there is a lot in the union movement that needs addressing. As I said in another thread, the teacher’s union – at least the NEA – have taken their eyes off the mission of their members and made it all about them. Reform is needed, big time. And in fact, I’m not even sure how I feel about public sector unions (surprised?).

I am however sure of this – labor in this country has been losing ground for 30 years. Wages are stagnant. It takes two people to support a family that used to get by on one salary. The direction down needs to change or we become a country neither you nor I would like. So in this case – for me – it’s very much a matter of ‘the principle of the thing’.

  5. Funny how all of you Liberals make absolutely no distinction between private and public sector unions. I am amazed at you people . As taxpayers, we are all management. Tell me that any of you get it ?

Public sector unions have been totally screwing all of us for years. They give money to politicians who then give them big pensions and bigger pay than all of us . Bigger pay means bigger union dues that then get recycled to politicians who will no longer be in office when the crap hits the fan .

Do any of you pay property taxes to school districts ? You guys must love it every time your teachers get a new contract .

Why do you hate the poor and middle class Alan? You must have really bad dreams of of us laying our filthy hands on your precious wealthy and destroying your “Umerican” way of life.
