Without comment

Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, speaking yesterday in Connecticut:

“The McChrystal incident, to me, was very comical. And I think it’s a reflection of the frustration that a lot of our military leaders have with this Administration and their prosecution of the war in Afghanistan,” said Steele. “Keep in mind again, federal candidates, this was a war of Obama’s choosing. This is not something the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in.”

” . .  if he’s such a student of history, has he not understood that you know that’s the one thing you don’t do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan? All right, because everyone who has tried, over a thousand years of history, has failed. And there are reasons for that.”

Can’t wait till the troops in Afghanistan hear that. We’re going into the celebratory weekend of July 4, and today is the 267th day of the ninth year of the War.

UPDATE:  In the comments, I suggested the GOP – other than Darth Kristol – was not taking notice. They are.

UPDATE AGAIN: Actually, things seem to be moving along . . . when The Corner at National Review Online speaks thusly, a new weather front has moved in . . .
“Rarely do you see such an impressive combination of tone-deafness and falsity. Amazing that the chairman could utter so much that is incorrect with his foot so far in his mouth.”

  1. Does this guy even have a clue how stupid he sounds?

    • Nope. But with that comment, he may have actually gotten his fellow ‘republicans’ to sit up and take notice.

However, if they review the body of commentary during his tenure they may decide it’s best to just stand way back and just wait him out. (although that great American, Bill Kristol, appears to be calling for his head. Gotta defend his wars, ya know.)

  2. Nothing shocks me anymore but honestly – how stupid does he think we are at this point?

Steele is such a respected figure in the GOP that I would not figure on Republicans distancing themselves from him no matter how out of touch his comments are. I mean this is a man whose continued insistence that Obama in not even an American perfectly represents the sentiments of his old ‘white male’ colleagues. How out of touch can one be? It’s the perfect marriage. I think you give Republicans too much credit, Moe. The Grand Ole Party seriously lacks accountability, and I don’t see that changing despite this latest fiasco.

I agree – and that’s the greatest puzzlement of all. I think at this point, they’re playing a game, inch by inch, trying to see what the Amercian people will swallow. How far they can go before the populace finally wakes up and says “what???!!!!????”

    • Bah, WP is being insipid with embedding video at the moment.

      Go here.

      • I’ve had problems with WP and video too. If you have problem when posting, try typing text in HTML instead of Visual, copy and pasting embed code directly into the post and then hit SAVE DRAFT (not Publish!). Only after that, should you hit publish.

But for vids in comments, I don’t know. I’ve been doing copy and paste URL’s and did one yesterday. Of course, it may not work today . . .

      • That video may be the ‘jump the shark’ moment for the Palin/Bachman brand of GOP women. Let us hope.

  7. You also might want to give Windows Live Writer a try, I use to create the posts on my blog, much better than the built in WP editor.

    • Ooh, something new to try! I shall dip my toe in that water. Still haven’t learned my lesson – to compose off line – so I frequently lose entire posts when I hit a wrong key!!! AAggghh.

  9. Hello! I stumbled on your website when i was on Bing searching for a few recent Twitter trends to find what’s been hot as of late. After I ended up here I remained about a little bit to read a couple of articles… enjoyable stuff. I will ensure that I get around again some time within the next month or two.

Well, maybe Rush will announce his decision about whether Steele keeps his post this week.

**just kidding** Happy extended holiday weekend, everyone.
