Tell that Jesus guy that only commies wear sandals and beards

The reaction to this one hasn’t even begun.

Glenn Beck may have gone too far. If so, he’ll have had a stunningly brief time in the spotlight compared to his fellow blowhards: Limbaugh has been on the air for two decades, FOX has been shining light on it’s stars for over a ten years, and Oliver North and Gordon Liddy, famous felons and traitors from the 70’s and 80’s, are still celebrated on the public airwaves.

(Note to self:  there wouldn’t be any public airways if the federal government would just listen to them. Examine logic.)

According to Roger Eberts’ Journal today, Glenn Beck has now told his listeners to run from their churches if they find the words “social justice’ anywhere in the literature. Those two words, he warns, are code for communism and fascism.

Ebert:

Beck’s oversight is that all religions teach social justice. That’s sort of what they’re about. “My church doesn’t,” said Beck who is a Mormon.  At this the mountains of Utah rang with the thunder of outraged Mormon elders.. . . before statehood the Mormons in the Utah territory provided universal health care and care for the poor as a matter of their duty.

Putz.

More from America’s theologian, the Fool of Fools.

  1. I wonder how Beck would react if Olbermann or some liberal suggested that any time someone hears two Mormons knocking at their door, they should hide their 9 year old daughters? That the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints is really just a cover for a child sex cult (which it is). I wonder how Mr. Beck feels about Christ being preached in churches, considering that Jesus… 1. Defended those accused of sexual immorality.(woman in adultery, prostitutes) 2. Was for the Seperation of Church and State. (render unto Cesear that which is Cesear’s, and God that which is God’s) 3. Was against the rich. 4. Was for women (had several in his ministry)5. Was against racism (the good samaritan parable) Let’s see, those are the big 5 issues that divide America even today. Looks like Jesus was a beard wearing, communist liberal. How ironic that He is made the poster boy for Conservatives! Maybe Beck should do a tad bit of research as to what a REAL christian is, before spouting off…

I think that he means legislating social justice.

For example, in my church, I firmly believe that taking the Name of the Lord in Vain is breaking a commandment. I do NOT think that we should legislate that.

before statehood the Mormons in the Utah territory provided universal health care and care for the poor as a matter of their duty.

I’m not sure if that’s true, but I won’t dispute it. Either way, THAT is the mission of the Church. It is not the mission of the Church to legislate their beliefs into law.

    Consider this:

If Jesus felt that coercion was the proper way to influence people we would all be Christians.

No idea about how Jesus felt about prosthelizing or coersion, but his followers did manage to christianize whole continents.

My point is that if Jesus, who we feel is divine, felt that coercion was the way to go in matters of such things as these, He would just wiggle His nose and bob His pony tail and –* POOF *– we’d all be Christians.

  4. Pino,
You have it dead on here.

    Moe,
Christians are taught that witnessing is an important tenet of their duty. Not forced servitude or anything of the sort.

Although ive moved away from Beck in the past year and half, and dont knwo much about LDS, i believe the moral fabric of that church is just. Not to mention social justice is an important part of the Christian doctrine, but just as Pino said, their doctrine is not a social AND political one like Islam. Step back from Becks annoying ness and over the top rhetoric, and realize that attempting to mandate or legislate social justice-equality or whateve ryou name it, is an anti common sense recipe for disaster.

    Texan,
You’re a moron. If JC was alive today, hed be the definition of a compassion conservative.

    • Mac and Pino:

The video I posted was an addendum on a subject I considered only related to my post. His comments came on his radio show and here’s a video to ABC News (I know, I know) where they reported on the controversy.

On TV, he tried to walk back what he’d said on the radio. But it doesn’t fly – he wasn’t attacking the legislative activism, he was attacking the theological soundness of the idea of social justice.

        I can’t believe I’m defending Beck–you have done this to me 😉

He is attacking the social activism that appears in Obama’s Chicago church.

  5. MacGregor: No, I am not an idiot. The Conservatives of today are no different then the self-righteous pharasees that Jesus had to deal with in his day. Now, Jesus did not tolerate sin. He told the woman, “Go and sin no more.”. But he DID tolerate people, and that is something Conservatives in general need to work on. Now when it comes to matters of money, Jesus was totally for the poor. And after he rose from the dead and ascended up to heaven, the disciples lived having all things common. Calling Jesus a Conservative is a real laugh! MOE: Jesus was for making disciples, as he wants all to be saved, knowing all will perish, except christians. As for his followers “managing to christianize whole continents”, the puritans brought the faith with them, and we grew into America. As for as Europe and Latin/South America go, the Catholics are responsible for those atrocities, as well as the crusades. Blame catholicism for that, not the true faith; whose members actually DO what God Says, according to His Word. 🙂
