Someone should introduce ABC News to the concept of what’s known as ‘counting’. And ‘reporting’ (the rest of the media might want to listen in.) ABC tells us congressional Democrats are ‘dropping like flies’. They are even ‘running for the hills’.
For the record, House members not seeking re-election? Republicans – 14; Democrats – 10.
Senate incumbents not seeking re-election? Republicans – 6; Democrats – 2.
What ABC and the rest of the herd are doing is what they always do; today’s news (Dorgan and Dodd) is the ONLY news. And in the course of informing the viewers/readers, cliches MUST be employed. A lot. And often.
UPDATE: It’s instructive that the ABC story came from The Note, the blog first written and edited by Jake Tapper, who set the tone. Jake Tapper can shine my shoes.
CORRECTION: I blew it and Jake Tapper didn’t deserve it. He never was associated with The Note. He’s also a fine journalist. I meant to name the somewhat creepy Mark Helperin.
Democrats are dropping like flies. Republicans are dropping like giant turds.
Well they always were giant turds, so of course . . . plus they are bad dressers and have awful hair.
But the vapid people on teevee are sometimes worse. They have such an impact on the national political literacy.
I say clear out ALL the incumbents. Ben, keep those flies off the turd; they can’t seem to resist.
Come on Moe. You can do better than ‘bad dressers’ and ‘aweful’ hair. I mean, look at Charlie Rangel.
I think Charlie’s kind of cute – but then I was born in NYC and we have our own, um, standards.
Dear Moe. I don’t write The Note, nor have I ever. You can praise it, you can criticize it, but it’s never been my work. I’ve never even guest-edited it.
Jake – whichever Jake this may be – is correct. I was wrong. Mark Halprin (Helprin?) was the founding editor of that enterprise. Jake Tapper is the ABC Washington Bureau reporter (editor?) who was terribly fond of the Bush /Cheney administration.
And if this comment IS from Jake T, may I add he is, besides being right, quite cordial.
And now I think this really is Jake Tapper and I’m a little embarassed by my glibness. I am, after all, accustomed to shooting my arrows from behind the fence.
